Production
companies can get a 30% tax credit for filming
in Connecticut. The
new legislation, provides incentives for the
film production industry and takes effect
October 1st. Dozens of media projects have
taken place and industry leaders see extensive
growth. The news has spread to film studios
in LA and Hollywood and many companies are
now planning film productions in the State.
The
location is very close to New York City adding
major benefits for the movie industry. Production
crews can shoot on studio stages in the city
in the morning and then shoot on location
in a New England town in the afternoon.
When
feature film crews descended on the Coast Guard
Academy last spring to shoot scenes for the
remake of "Yours Mine and Ours" they
spent tens of thousands of dollars in the local
economy for hotel rooms, restaurants and purchasing
supplies. This influx of out of State companies
benefits the whole community with new out of
State money that offsets the tax incentives.
Connecticut
and neighboring states are in tight competition
to lure major feature productions. Connecticut
now provides the best incentives in the country
for them to do business here.
